Die-In Protest as LA Nears 7,000 COVID-19 Deaths

More than one hundred community members, including clergy, parents, and essential workers, held a die-in protest and memorial service today in Downtown Los Angeles honoring the thousands of Angelenos lost to COVID-19.

They called on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to establish Public Health Councils in workplaces where people gather to prevent outbreaks, community spread, and more deaths at their next meeting on October 27th. Since the policy proposal was introduced at their July 21st meeting, nearly 3,000 people died from COVID-19 in the county.

Los Angeles County continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports 290,009 cases have now been confirmed, including 39 new deaths totaling 6,912 deaths.
