55,000 LA County Workers Up the Ante on Contract Negotiations After Historic 48-Hour ULP Strike

After 44 Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs) and stalled contract negotiations, over 55,000 LA County workers and members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 721 took to the picket line for a 48-hour strike.
More than 10,000 LA County members of SEIU 721 and supporters across the LA Labor movement rallied and marched in Downtown Los Angeles in protest of management’s repeated violations of labor law and failure to bargain in good faith.
The march—the largest in SEIU 721’s history—came on day two of the county workers’ Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike. At the conclusion of the march, 14 union members and community supporters sat down in the street in a nonviolent act of civil disobedience, laying down a banner in front of them saying “LA County Workers on ULP Strike,” as fellow members and supporters cheered and chanted for a fair contract.
LA County workers have returned to work as bargaining continues. SEIU Local 721 remains steadfast in its goal of securing the best contract possible for them.
