1000 Strong
Los Angeles is in a state of crisis. The skyrocketing cost of living, stagnant wages, and historic levels of homelessness are hurting working families while disproportionately impacting our Black communities. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and made this exponentially worse.
We launched the 1000 Strong campaign with other worker justice organizations because there is an answer for equitable economic recovery.
To us, there is one clear solution: More public jobs are needed for the Black community.
Public sector employment has been part of civil rights and labor movements for generations.
The public sector reflects the only area in the Los Angeles economy in which Black workers are equitably represented in quality work.
Simply put, public sector jobs are the proven Black pathway from poverty into the middle class and best weapon against homelessness.
