UNITE HERE Local 11 Celebrates Contract Wins with Community and Allies

07.26.24

In a disturbing trend seen across different industries, one of the region’s largest economic engines, the tourism industry, is celebrating record profits while hospitality workers are overworked and fighting to stay housed and alive.

UNITE HERE Local 11 members launched a massive contract drive last summer, launching a wave of strikes at hotels across LA County.

The workers’ primary contract goals include wage increases to keep pace with the soaring cost of housing in Los Angeles, quality and affordable health insurance, a pension to retire with dignity and humane workloads.

Workers have been met with violence and various labor issues since they have been fighting for a contract.

Despite multiple barriers, hospitality workers have stood strong and gathered in Downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the 68 contracts reached to date.

The full strength and deep solidarity of the more than 800,000 members of the LA Labor movement have been with our UNITE HERE 11 members throughout this fight.

The labor movement is a community movement. These 68 victories are a testament to the fact that when we struggle together, we can win amazing things for the entire community.
