It Stops Now! Janitors Take to the Streets in Support of AB 2364
Janitors with SEIU-USWW took to the streets in Downtown Glendale ahead of contract negotiations and in support of AB 2364.
Workers began the action with a rally in front of the high-rise office buildings they’re contracted to, marched down Brand Boulevard, and concluded at the Americana.
Since the pandemic, working conditions for janitors have deteriorated significantly. A recent study by the California Department of Industrial Relations found that 33% of janitors reported being injured one or more times in the last year and that 23% are experiencing wage theft.
Janitors are dealing with increased workloads at the hands of major corporate property owners like Blackstone and the Irvine Company.
In addition to gearing up for contract negotiations, janitors are also pushing for the passage of AB 2364, which seeks to end excessive and abusive workloads in the janitorial industry.
