LOS ANGELES- The Los Angeles County labor movement mourns with and stands in resounding solidarity with the Minnesota labor movement and the American Federation of Government Employees. We stand in unwavering solidarity with the families of Keith Porter Jr., Renée Nicole Good, and Alex Pretti (AFGE Local 3669) — whose lives were taken in encounters involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal agents. Their deaths are not abstract headlines — they are profound losses that have shaken our communities, our unions, and our collective conscience.

Keith Porter Jr. was a beloved father, a hardworking friend, and a vibrant presence in his community — struck down by an off-duty ICE agent in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old American citizen, was killed in Minneapolis by an ICE agent on January 7. And on January 24, Alex Jeffrey Pretti — a dedicated ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System and a proud member of AFGE Local 3669 — was fatally shot by federal agents in the streets of Minneapolis.

These deaths are more than statistics — they are human lives cut short: parents, caregivers, union siblings, and public servants who devoted themselves to their families and to the care of others. Their absence leaves real and lasting pain.

We mourn with their families, their coworkers, their union siblings, and the communities who loved them. We recognize the agony of losing a loved one to violence, especially when accountability and transparency are absent. We honor their memories by lifting up their names, their stories, and their dignity.

We also recognize the broader context in which these tragedies occurred — a pattern of federal enforcement tactics that have escalated fear, trauma, and division in communities across the country. Workers, families, and neighbors deserve to feel safe, protected, and respected by the institutions that are meant to serve them.

Today, we stand for:

• Justice and accountability for the deaths of Keith Porter Jr., Renée Good, and Alex Pretti
• A full, independent, and transparent investigation into these incidents, free from obstruction
• An end to policies and operations that subject communities to violence, intimidation, and harm
• Respect for the rights, dignity, and humanity of all working people — regardless of background or status

We call on every union local, worker organization, and ally in Los Angeles County and beyond to join us in solidarity — not only in mourning, but in action. We lift up these names and pledge that their deaths will not be forgotten, and that the struggle for justice, equity, and human dignity will continue with resilience and resolve.

In solidarity and in strength — we march forward together.
