The following is a statement from Ron Herrera, president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO on the nomination of Julie A. Su for deputy secretary of labor:

“Julie Su’s experience and values make her a remarkable choice for deputy secretary of labor. Over her extraordinary career, Su has fought to advance justice for working families and our most disenfranchised communities.

In her time as California labor commissioner, and currently as California labor secretary, she has taken on the most pressing worker issues of our time such wage theft, misclassification, and workers compensation.

It is no surprise to anyone in California that Julie Su would be nominated to be part of President Biden’s administration. She has committed her life to improving the lives of working people and I am confident she will do the same in Washington D.C.

Fundamentally, the Department of Labor is there to protect the workforce of America and guarantee a safe and fair working environment. With Marty Walsh as secretary and Julie Su as deputy secretary, we have high hopes for the future of the American Labor Movement.”
