The following is a statement from Ron Herrera, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO on the confirmation of Julie A. Su as U.S. deputy secretary of Labor:
“The American people have gained another friend and warrior for working families in the White House today with the confirmation of Julie Su as the U.S. deputy secretary of Labor.
Julie Su has dedicated her life to protecting working people and improving the lives of all working families. In her over 30 year career, Secretary Su has fought to protect California’s most vulnerable workers and taken on some of the most pressing issues such as wage theft and misclassification. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped California lead the nation in pro-worker policies including expanded paid sick leave, expanded access to workers’ compensation, and emergency temporary standard for workplace health and safety. Her leadership protected the lives of frontline workers and preserved much needed jobs in our communities.
President Biden could not have chosen a more passionate and experienced candidate to join Secretary Marty Walsh in leading the U.S. Department of Labor.
We applaud the U.S. Senate on their confirmation and look forward to working with the U.S. Department of Labor and Secretary Su to help improve the lives of working families and expand the American Labor Movement.”
