(Los Angeles, CA) In response to the new phase in the reopening of Los Angeles County businesses, Ron Herrera, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, issues the following statement:
“As businesses begin to open, it is important that employers adhere to the regulations in place to ensure people feel safe to come into work. Face covering and personal protection equipment (PPE) must be provided to all workers.
Additionally, no reopening can be fully successful if workers do not have a voice in health and safety guidelines in the workplace. Just as important as PPE, workers must have an avenue to speak up in an event that their employer does not comply to safety regulations, putting workers’ lives on the line. As we have seen with the unfortunate situation at the Farmer John’s plant in Vernon, workplaces can become an epicenter of a new outbreak and can easily spark a second wave on positive cases. Los Angeles labor demands a voice for all workers across the state.”
