LA County Fed President Rusty Hicks on the 2018 Election
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT FROM RUSTY HICKS,
PRESIDENT OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FEDERATION OF LABOR, AFL-CIO,
ON ELECTION 2018
“After two years of attacks by Donald Trump and the Republican Congress, tonight working people rose up with their neighbors and took back their democracy.
“Union members and those not yet organized, immigrants and U.S.-born, black and white and Asian and Latino, the LGBT community, and any American with a sense of fair play and justice looked at each other and said ‘there’s more of us than there are of them.’ And the new Congress will reflect that.
“I’m proud of the thousands of Los Angeles County union members who volunteered through the LA Fed on the most competitive races in the county.
“Most importantly, we did it in coalition with Americans from all walks of life who heard the call of solidarity. Tonight’s election is proof of this: when we fight, we win.”
Note: This election cycle, thousands of union members organized by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor contacted more than 50,000 individual voters, with special focus on Katie Hill for Congress in north L.A. County’s 25th Congressional District; Mike Eng in the San Gabriel Valley’s 22nd California Senate District; No on Prop 6 statewide; and Yes on W in Los Angeles County, among other important candidates and measures.
