In response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Ron Herrera, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, issues the following statement:

“Today’s announcement by the U.S. Supreme Court rejecting efforts to end DACA is a tremendous victory that protects the hard-fought gains made by millions of leaders for the dignity and humane treatment of immigrants in the United States.

Thanks to this critical program, over 700,000 DACA recipients, including many of our fellow Union members, have been able to thrive without the fear of being taken from their families. They have been able to purchase homes, start families, and realize the American Dream.

While we take time to celebrate, we know that this fight is far from over. Heading into the election season, we must vote and demand that our elected officials create a permanent solution that provides a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants. This will not only strengthen our communities, it will strengthen our labor movement. Now more than ever, we must stand united, shoulder to shoulder with our immigrant brothers and sisters in our communities and in the workplace.”
