MLK Day 2023 is Back!

01.09.23

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Philanthropy is commendable, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.” The Labor Movement was founded on this principle and in his honor, we are excited to bring back our annual MLK Day for 2023.

After a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, we are officially ready to host an in-person MLK Day 2023 with Special Host Yvette Nicole Brown who will be interviewing our Special Guest, Los Angeles City Mayor-Elect, Karen Bass. Both women are the epitome of #BlackExcellence and have been at the forefront of their industries.

Yvette Nicole Brown, star of the hit NBC sitcom, Community and Primetime Emmy Award nominee for her role on the hit show, A Black Lady Sketch Show, has, in her spare time, also supported proworker candidate, then President-Elect Biden, through the creation of a viral video in support of his election titled Human Beings for Biden. Karen Bass, former Congressional Representative, has become the first Black woman mayor of the City of Los Angeles after serving many years community organizing in the heart of South LA.

All proceeds from this event will benefit all of the initiatives that The LA Fed and its partners host annually including but not limited to LCS’ Holiday Drives, MCF’s Community Events, and The LA Fed’s Worker’s Congress

For more information about this event, please feel free to check out the MLK Day 2023 Event Page. If you have any questions regarding registration, please email Rosie Cruz at rosie@thelafed.org for additional information.
