Los Angeles, CA – The following statement was issued by Rusty Hicks, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, regarding tomorrow’s Workers’ Memorial Day:
“Every year on Workers’ Memorial Day (April 28), working people gather to commemorate our sisters and brothers who have been injured or killed on the job. We pay tribute to them, and we are also recommitting ourselves to the workers in front of us – especially the ones at the Port of LA who are experiencing job misclassification, wage theft, racial discrimination, and dangerous working conditions.
“When one industry is exploited or abused, it deteriorates the entire workforce. We stand in solidarity with all workers, who are leading the fight for safety and dignity on the job.”
