No One Gets Left Behind

Sisters and Brothers,

A year ago, we wouldn’t have imagined that we would be where we are at today – fighting day in and day out to protect our basic rights and the values our country was built on.

But this week showed a silver lining – our endorsed candidates unseated long-time incumbents, which conveys the new direction voters are seeking in their communities. On the national scale, we saw tremendous wins and firsts in Virginia, New Jersey, and North Carolina – the first Sikh mayor in U.S. history, the first African American woman mayor of Charlotte, NC, the first transgender state representative in U.S. history, and the first Latinas in the Virginia State House.

This is the America I know. It’s what makes the very fabric of our nation, and it’s what makes me proud to have served our country in Afghanistan. While we still have a lot of work ahead of us, I’m proud to celebrate Veterans Day honoring our military veterans who stood up for freedom and justice for all.

Thank you,
